Rybelsus (semaglutide) is a once-daily prescription pill used with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is also approved to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events like heart attack or stroke in high-risk patients
How to Take It
- Take first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
- Swallow whole with no more than 4 ounces of plain water.
- Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other oral medications
Dosage Information
- 3 mg tablet: Starting dose used for 30 days to let your body adjust (not primarily for blood sugar control).
- 7 mg tablet: Common maintenance dose.
- 14 mg tablet: Maximum daily dose for stronger blood sugar control.
Common Side Effects
- Nausea and vomiting
- Stomach pain and diarrhea
- Decreased appetite and constipation
Important Safety Notes
- Carries a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumors seen in animal studies; do not use if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma.
- Not for treating type 1 diabetes.
